The Building Guys

Price check without the guesswork

Builder quote too high?

A high quote is not automatically a bad quote. A low quote is not automatically a good one. The question is whether the price matches the scope and risk.

What makes a quote look expensive

Sometimes the expensive quote is the only one pricing the job properly. Sometimes it is padded, vague, or carrying allowances that should be challenged.

What to compare

Do not compare headline totals only.

  • Groundworks and drainage
  • Structural steel and calculations
  • Kitchen, bathroom, and finish allowances
  • Electrical and plumbing scope
  • VAT and exclusions
  • Waste, skips, access, and making good

What we do

We help you work out whether the price is high because the scope is fuller, because the risk is real, or because the quote needs pushing back.

The position

Quote review is the doorway. Extension advice is the service.

Most homeowners first feel the problem when a builder quote lands, a deposit is requested, or two prices do not match. That is where TBG enters the conversation, then widens the advice to the project risk behind the quote.

Best next step

If you are not sure which route fits, start with the Quick Review. If you have multiple quotes or detailed drawings, use the detailed quote review or East Midlands site survey.

Quick answers

Will you tell me what the job should cost?

We can flag whether the quote looks high, low, vague, or risky, but the most useful answer is usually what is missing or unclear.

Can you compare two builders?

Yes. If you have two or three quotes, the Detailed Quote Review is usually the better fit.
